Or Glory: 21st Century Rockers - Nil Satis Nisi Optimum

Sunday, August 15, 2010 2:30:39 PM EDT

With their tattoos, leather jackets, slicked-back hair, and beloved British motorbikes - BSAs, Triumphs, Nortons, and Royal Enfields - Rockers are the nemesis and antithesis of the fastidiously groomed Mods. Elvis, James Dean, and Marlon Brando made rocker style synonymous with rebellion, sparking a global cult.

Horst Friedrichs follows the British rocker tribe as its members congregate in parking lots, pubs, cafes, dance and pool halls, as well as huge gatherings at Jacks Hill and the Ace Cafe. Alternating between rich, vibrant colour and gritty black and white, these photographs capture a spirit of unapologetic defiance in clothing as well as attitude, every bit as strong today as it was sixty years ago.

Trenchant and evealing commentary from Friedrichs' subjects sheds light on the impulses, yearnings, and motivations of this enduring international rebel chic subculture making 21st Century Rockers a piece of history in the making. We are truly fortunate that individuals such as Horst share the same deep seated passion for Cafe Racers, going fast and paying homage to the past.

This past week The DCC Crew received a pre-release copy directly from Horst in London.  We must say, at first glance one is left beside him/herself simply by the imagery of the cover and it's commanding presence when placed upon a table.

It's only when you open the book and begin to flip the thick sturdy pages, hearing the intoxicating "crackle" as each one separates for the first time, that you understand the importance of the account in front of you..

Paying homage to the classic Cafe Racer/Rocker culture- Horst leverages his talents behind the shutter to capture some of the most inspiring imagery ever caught on film. These modern purveyors of this indispensable two-wheeled following that helped shape, not only modern motorcycles and Rock and Roll, but an entire culture are brought forth in a intoxicating light, by Horst.

Whether you're Cafe Racer, Rocker or Vintage Motorcycle aficionado- this book belongs in your shop, on your coffee table or on your shelf. The Wing'd Piston gives Horst and 21st Century Rockers our stamp of approval along with Veteran Rocker and authentic Cafe Racer direct from the other side of the big pond, and owner of Santiago Choppers Alan Bernard. Alan gives his nod of approval and authenticity of Horst's production while hanging out at Dime City.

Cafe de' la cool...

Friday, July 9, 2010 3:25:54 PM EDT

Ask and ye' shall receive!

Many of you have contacted us with the desire to fit a classic one-up seat to that bombshell your building in the garage, but have stressed that you don't have access to a leather shop to create a cushion for the other custom seats out there.

Enter the sultry-sweet leather wrapped ton-up glory getting leather wrapped Cafe Racer seat from Dime City!

dime city cycles,cafe racer,leather seat,one-up seat

Assembled by hand from the highest quality steel and leather these babies are stitched by hand with a propensity to detail even Howard Hughes would be proud of.

They've got a nice tapered design which allows for fitment on almost any bike.  If you have a smaller CB350 or 450 with narrow frame rails it's not problem.  Same goes for the wider 550's and 750's along with XS's, KZ's and just about any other bike out there.

Checkout the full photo spread and details here: Leather Wrapped Cafe Racer Seat  link.

As for those of you still leery of cutting into your bike to build brackets and mount one of these suckers (or any seat for that matter) definitely give us a call and we'll provide as much information as possible. With a little patience and some help from Gradma' and her dencher glue you can make it happen!

We'll also add- another source of excellent DIY Cafe Racer tech is DoTheTon.com so be sure to swing over there and checkout the specific section they have setup for "Seats and Tanks". Your guaranteed to find a solution for getting your leather wrapped juke box killer on the move.

Good things a'comin folks!

Friday, July 2, 2010 12:52:40 PM EDT

Well everyone, the fourth of July is here and along with lighting your pants on fire with contraband from the truck stop, rum filled watermelons and all the other mayhem you can conjure up- the Dime City Crew is getting ready to start slinging website updates like greasy IHOP eggs and bacon again!

We've been slammed with some custom projects and as much as we known you can't wait to check DCC every morning for new BLOG posts and products, we've had to scale back a bit. Trust us though...the goods are comin in more way than one! We've got a ton of new products to launch on the website, a few new partnerships to announce and good 'ol fashioned Dime City nonsense to keep you cool through the warm months.

A quick note, we changed the main shop phone number and moved to a fancy service called Google Voice. It allows the shop phone to ring all our mobile devices at the same time so the first available person, inside the shop or out, can pickup you call.  The new number is 727 386 9735.  Give us a shout to try it out!  Who knows what you'll here in the background...

And last, The DCC Shop Monster wants everyone to have a fun and safe Fourth of July weekend. Be sure to snap any nonsensical shots from your camera phones and email 'em to us. We love to see what kind of trouble you guys are getting into!

DCC Originals releases the "DIY Cafe Racer" tail loop

Wednesday, June 23, 2010 9:22:34 AM EDT

So you've got that old tube frame torn down in the garage.. The Cafe Racer of your dreams is taking shape right before your eyes. What a catch she is! Polished and rebuilt forks, blasted and coated engine, speed holes...to the nines man! You've gone through every single aspect of 'er. The finish line is close!

dime city cycles,dcc originals,cafe racer

It goes without saying that you've gone the distance Ace and now it's time to seal the deal. Yes, the fat is in the fire and it's time to turn up the heat to that last notch and as always, DCC has your back! What a good time it is to be a Cafe Racer..

That said, for those of you with a fever for busting your knuckles and making things your own, the Dime City Crew has just released, through the DCC Originals line, our DIY Cafe Racer rear tail loop section! And what a dream it is!

dime city cycles,dcc originals,cafe racer

The most defining aspect of a Cafe Racer is the seat.. That classic and often hand-built one-up glory getting saddle that so defines the era that is Cafe Racer. Sure, you can just lop off the brackets and hang half a gas tank off the back half, cover it with foam and call it a day, but you've got class. Panache even, and your dripping with Bravado.. So why not go the extra mile and fit one of these sweet mamma's to that bad little ground pounder of yours? Finish it off with a Roccity Cafe fiber glass seat and your the new ton-up terror on the block!

dime height=

DCC knows what a PITA it is to build a solid, safe and aesthetically pleasing rear loop.  Trust us, we've been there using inferior benders, jigs and torches to achieve that perfect, clean and crisp look. It's next to impossible, without the right tools...or, the DCC Original DIY Cafe Racer tail.

Bent by hand on our custom made die and Pro-Tools bender we've created a 6" 180 degree radius with a perfect bend for that perfect finished look. No more joining two pieces and ending up with gobs of bondo for power for paint. Just a fail swoop bend that puts it all to an end.

dime city cycles,dcc originals,cafe racer

Check 'em out in the online store today and get yours on order! Our bender is manual and Jason is looking forward to the workout!

The Dime City Crew grows by two..

Thursday, June 3, 2010 11:54:03 AM EDT

Despite the fact that these two guys look like the goons you saw on that tattered "America's Most Wanted" poster at the local deli, they're alright.. Ha.

Folks, we'd like to take a moment to introduce the two newest members of the Dime City Militia, Michael and Travis.

dime city cycles

Michael, encase you couldn't figure it out, is the one with his namesake blazen across his back.  Because he and Travis look like twins we opted to have him brand all his clothing.  The resemblance is uncanny... Can't have any confusion here at Dime City folks..things are tough enough as it is.

dime city cycles

Michael, joined us recently on an apprenticeship care of The Bland "Man of Men" Work Institute. In an effort to hone his skills as a mans man in the- full of fancy mens hand lotions, big sunglasses and Tapout t-shirt infested world of today, he is working his way up the Dime City ranks over the summer learning basic restoration and mechanical theory.

Already proving to be instrumental to Dime City's success, he's got an eye for detail and zeal for perfection on par with Herm, and has proven himself countless times in a short few weeks digging into the truly dirty work of prepping and polishing the aluminum castings for the Brass Cafe.

The other newest member to this motley crew, is none other than, Travis Taylor. This infamous, worldly and life seasoned, musical genius, is a good friend of The Dime City Crew and has taken up refuge in gorgeous city of Tampa, FL to explore the musical harmonies that reside in St. Pete, Ybor City and Clearwater.

dime city cycles

While he's not strumin' guitar singing about how he "met Jesus in a Karaoke bar" he can be seen in the Dime City Garage tearing into just about anything.  Somethings wanted...and others, not so much.  Ha.

He's a good sport, has a strong work ethic and is no stranger to bikes having rebuilt a few, including a V-star in a studio apartment with nothing but a butter knife, half a craftsman tool set and manual printed in Spanish.  Never mind, never having been to Mexico. If he can eat Chiclets surely, he could translate Spanish!

So, that said, feel free to abuse these guys while we have them!

Site Maintenance..

Wednesday, May 5, 2010 10:32:09 PM EDT

Hey guys, just a quick update..

Some of you brought it to our attention that after placing orders you were not able to see them in your customer profile once logged into Dime City.

You'll be pleased to know that we've found the problem and have fixed it. Herm and I were puzzled, but Shopdog was able to sort it out propuh, despite not having opposable thumbs. Good boy! Now go fetch that M10 spanner...

Anyway, moving forward you should see your orders in your profile if they are placed after tonight. You will also be able to login and check your tracking information as the tracking system was also affected by the systemic issue.

Thanks for your patience as we work through this socio-techno-eCommerce-world! As always, you can call us if you have any questions.

Peace and grease..  The Dime City Crew

We know, we know... Enough with the seats already!

Thursday, April 22, 2010 7:42:22 PM EDT

We just had to share a little more about this brand new line of seats we brought in. The quality is absolutely fantastic! Once we started into the photo shoot we were blown away! High grade synthetic leather (perfect for those who support PETA), heavy gauge steel base and stitching Betsy Ross would be amazed by!

But don't take our word for it. See for yourself below!  It's going to take us time to shoot them all but the quality is the same on every single model, The Wing'd Piston guarantees it! Check 'em all out in the New Products section and find the right one for you custom Jap Bob Chop!

We've still got a few more to load along with springs and mounts so be on the lookout for those as well soon!

Wednesday, April 21, 2010 10:51:36 PM EDT

Dime City Cycles - NOW OPEN!

Tuesday, April 6, 2010 9:41:49 AM EDT

To all our fellow Ton-up Cowboys and Bob-Jockeys,

After almost a year of planning and eight tireless months of development stricken with busted fingers, blurred vision and permanent kinks in our back from hard metal chairs…  We are proud to announce to the moto-community that Dime City Cycles is NOW OPEN!

Our initial launch includes 550+ items suitable for just about any Vintage Restoration, Café Racer or Bobber project.  Brands like Motofiaccone, Biltwell and Emgo are just a few to name in our current catalog with plans to add many more as the year progresses. So many actually, that we plan on tripling our product offering by year end 2010.  Simply hover that greasy mouse of yours over the “Bike Parts” link at the top of the page and hang on!

You’ll see initially that we cater mostly to Honda’s but do not miss the “Universal & Crossover” sections where we’ve cataloged all parts that can be used on anything from a Triumph to a custom Harley.  As we expand our line-up you will see more and more items available for not only Hondas, but all other makes as well. Be sure to keep an eye on the “New Products!” section as well as we’re adding parts to that section constantly as a quick reference. So, if there’s something you need for that CB, XS or Lighting and you don’t see it, just email us! Chances are we already have it que’d up to go live, and can get it out to you faster than the jukebox goes quiet!

Not only are we bringing all the greatest brands under one roof we’re providing you, the customer, with as much information as possible to make your purchases with confidence. We hope that highly detailed photos and product data wrapped up with all original descriptions make for purchasing from DCC not only a pleasurable experience, but one that leaves you satisfied that you spent your hard earned dollars with a small business that really has your best interests at heart. Just say “No!” to text based websites from the 90’s with black and whites sketches of parts! You deserve better!

Cool products don’t go far though without a solid foundation and strong customer service. Too many times in this industry, we ourselves have placed orders (as customers) only to get an email weeks later informing us the product is no longer available or worse, no response at all! We’re aiming to change that by sticking to our armada “Nil Satis Nisi Optimum” or, “Nothing but the best is good enough” for us, and our customer. We can’t guarantee we’ll have everything when you place an order, but you can bet you bet your bottom dollar that you’ll get a response with accurate ETA’s shortly after placing it!

Along with cool products and stellar service you also have to be innovative. The House of The Wing’d Piston focuses huge amounts of time and energy on investments in technology to make your customer experience more enjoyable and less frustrating. With our true e-commerce driven site you can review all your previous orders, track your reward points along with several other cool things right from your own customer control panel. (Think Amazon) Not that we don’t love talking to our customers, we just know that in today’s fast paced world on occasion, you want the option to be able to shop at 3AM in your underwear and need the tools available so you can do so!

And for those of you who live across the big pond or on the other side of globe you needn’t worry! All this gasoline goodness is available to you as well! The DCC Team has a logistics background that even the Greeks would be proud of and can get you anything you need just about anywhere in the world. If we have to contract a Camel and it’s handler to delivery your exhaust pipes, we’ll do it! Just give us a shot, we know you’ll be pleased. Besides, with the US dollar dropping by the minute your bucks go a long way in Dime City…what other excuse to you have?

Wrapping up the fore mentioned we want you to know that we're here to serve you, and without your input we can only do so good-a job.  If there's things you think we should change, add or remove from our digital garage please let us know. Just drop us an email or give us a call, it’s our mission to provide you with the best experience possible!

Many thanks and we’re looking forward to seeing some great bikes getting built and having a ton of fun in the process! Keep an eye on the BLOG daily for updates as well as plug into our Twitter feed for the most up to date nonsense!

Buy the ticket, take the ride!
