Sean Hughe's 1971 CB350

Another day, another beautiful CB350 rolls into our 'Customer Build' inbox. This revitalized '71 model is courtesy of Sean Hughes from New Hampshire. "I like restoring bikes, but I wanted to try my hand at customizing," says Hughes.

He found the bike on Craigslist and his initial idea was to do a complete teardown; powder-coat everything, rebuild the engine, add a brat-style seat, etc. But, as he started to work on it, Sean soon realized that he loved the way the fuel tank aged and patinaed. "I didn't have the heart to sand it down and paint it," admits Hughes. "Some bikes want to be restored. Some bikes want to be cut up with seat hoops and mods. But, some just want to show their age so this became more of a resto-mod." And so it began...

Sean cut and bobbed the fenders. Electrical modifications were made to integrate a new taillight and turn signals. The OE battery box was cut in half to fit a small AGM battery. The headlight is the original sealed beam. A handful of modern additions were chosen like reverse cone mufflers, Nitto tires and new chrome spokes, Keihin carbs fitted with K&N pod filters, and Biltwell tracker bars with ProGrip grips.

"The seat is a vintage motocross look", Sean explains. "Some parts were powder-coated, while the frame was left as is. I like that look. I'm happy with it and it's an absolute blast to ride!"

This is Sean's first custom work and man, resto-mods don't get much better than this!

Excellent work and thank you for choosing Dime City Cycles!

What a beauty! Ear-to-ear smile, here; reminds me of my very first bike, a '68 350. A lot of bikes have come and gone since then, but I still have a soft spot in my heart for these. Well done, well done indeed!

Wow Sean,I also had a 71' CB350,back in the early 00's and it DEFINITELY showed it's age! Lol. And I rode it "as-is",after I did some modest repairs to make it rideable! At that time,I always wondered what it would look like if the drums were powdercoated black, and I put on new black wheels with a brand new exhaust system, but DID NOT touch the frame or polish the tank (which was the same exact color as yours is!) and now I can clearly see what it would've looked like and I like it!!! Great Job Sean! :-)

Big thumbs up for leaving it as is! Doing just the basics sometimes is all you need to do. Plenty of stuff out there if you want to cut something up.

Nice clean update on a classic ride! Suggest a low cost upgrade is to 400 wet and dry sand, then SimiChrome polish the fork tubes and cases. Takes a little time but really looks nice on these older Hondas.
