Mats Palsson is a four-time Swedish motocross champion who finally found his way back to motorcycles. Now 56, Palsson said he was a “madman” in his youth, riding Kawasaki triples before he took up motocross seriously. “They were mad motorcycles but fun for a madman that I was at the time,” he said.
A little over a year ago he came across a 1981 Honda
CB750 owned by his friend’s father who was 80 years old at the time. The
octogenarian bought the bike new back in ’81 and it was still in near mint
condition when Palsson picked it up. The project kept him busy last winter.
“With tears in my eyes I started to cut it down,” he
said. “First I was thinking of a café racer but I found a picture of a brat
style Honda and I was sold.” Palsson did everything on his own, including the
paint job and extending the rear swing arm three inches.
Many of the parts he wasn’t able to buy locally came
from eBay and toward the end of the build he discovered his friends an ocean
away, Dime City Cycles. We supplied him with the speedometer and tachometer.
