People ride motorcycles for a myriad of reasons and the act, the art can be extremely rewarding. Some people crave adventure,
some the serenity and focus and others the honing of technical skill. What could possibly further augment the thrill? Taking your ride off-road. There is nothing quite like bombing down a back road, spying the entrance to a fire trail and embracing the impish desire to go explore. Tough to do on a sleek, low café racer and a little cringeworthy to think about doing on your trophy resto. Enter the Enduro.
Enduro bikes straddle a line between street and off-road performance. They’re a multi-tool. There are better-suited specialty tools for specific jobs but it’s not a seam leveler you keep in glovebox and being stranded on an island with a timing light won’t do you much good. Riding an enduro down a trail is like hiking on a motorcycle. You get the serenity of communing with nature, the adventure of exploration and if you seek it, some excellent technical challenges.
There is something visceral and innate in the joy of leaving the road. It’s similar to the first leg of a road trip where the sense of freedom and opportunity overwhelms. Only this feeling comes from shaking off the restriction of pavement dictating where you can go, and it is intoxicating. The best part is there is no trailer required. You can still commute, pick up groceries, wheelie and occupy any compact parking space you desire before and after your dirt detour. Riding off-road can even make you a better rider, becoming more familiar and comfortable with loose surfaces, obstacles and throttle control. You can use that with your better half, I don’t mind.

With great liberty comes some responsibility. Taking our controlled explosion, exhaust belching, freedom machines into the beauty of the natural world requires a little more thought. Making sure your bike is running properly, keeping its internal fluids internal and making sure you have a proper exhaust spark arrestor are a small price to pay for the incredible experiences to be discovered living an enduro life.
Whether you’re an experienced trail maverick or are just now remembering how awesome cutting through the park on your BMX bike was, let Dime City make that part a little easier and help you stay ahead of the maintenance curve. There’s nothing like a little soil in your tread.
