All Tim Aysan wanted was a logistically smooth method of lining up ride days with his core group of Toronto-based friends. He thought starting a forum-based website would be the best way to do it and he registered the domain name dotheton.com. Over a decade later, Aysan has more than 40,000 (registered) friends, 100,000 unique monthly visitors and 800,000 posts of content. None of it was planned and when he first hit 1,000 members he thought to himself, “Really?! There’s 1,000 other people out there who like the same kind of stuff my friends and I do?”

Nova Scotia’s riding season might be short but that didn’t deter 49-year-old Bob Wilson from searching for, buying and rebuilding a custom motorcycle. Even though he has a background in mechanical engineering and design, and previously owned trail bikes as a young man, this was his first attempt at rebuilding a street bike. He didn’t even have a street license before he started.

Mats Palsson is a four-time Swedish motocross champion who finally found his way back to motorcycles. Now 56, Palsson said he was a “madman” in his youth, riding Kawasaki triples before he took up motocross seriously. “They were mad motorcycles but fun for a madman that I was at the time,” he said.

Miami’s Jose Bared has fond memories of riding in his dad’s Ural sidecar as a teenager but when that was sold he satiated his love for wheels by zipping around on Vespas. Now 21, Bared is a student at the Savannah School of Art and Design studying furniture and marine design. When he spotted a fair condition 1978 Honda CB 125 for $1500 he snapped it up and took a shot at giving the bike a new look and life.

Karly Kothmann just wanted to ride with the boys, specifically her high-school-sweetheart husband and his friends. A dinnertime discussion quickly escalated into riding lessons, then a Honda Ruckus, then a motorcycle street license for Christmas and finally a Honda CL350 for Valentine’s Day.

Bob Ranew’s parents wouldn’t let him have a bike. In eighth grade his friend got a Suzuki Trail 90 and young Bob got a taste of two wheels. In college, it was a roommate who had a Honda 450. Finally, Ranew got a sport bike, one of the first Kawasaki Ninjas released in the U.S. in the 1980s. Then marriage and kids came, bikes went… you might know the story.

Team Scot(t) has finished the 2016 American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association season with a pair of championships. Scotty Turner, 59, Dime City Cycles’ original team member, is now a two-time national champion.

Frenchman Benoit Rameix, 41, is a surfboard shaper from Biarritz who only started riding motorcycles two years ago; hard to believe for a European! Now he can claim his first custom build, a 1977 Honda CB500 Four. His surfboard company, Notox is located in the same Atlantic-coast town as the popular Wheels and Waves event.

Sean Zeigler had, technically, never thrown a leg over a motorcycle on the day that his first project bike was delivered to his home. For seven years he had been riding and rebuilding vintage Vespa scooters but the 1975 Honda CB550F Supersport he bought off eBay was going to be the first true motorcycle he would both rebuild and ride.
