Kyle Finley's 2004 Triumph Thruxton
In the mid-1960s, the "Thruxton 500" was being dominated by Norton Motorcycles with 3 consecutive wins with their 650cc models. In 1964, former Norton engineer Doug Hele joined Triumph Motorcycles as Head of Development and, subsequently, ran away with 1st place finishes at alternative circuits in 1965, 1966, 1967, and 1968 with a more modified version of the Bonneville model. In 1969, when the 500-mile race returned to Thruxton, Triumph took 5 of the top 6 places.
35 years later, Triumph released a retro-styled cafe racer, the Thruxton 900, paying homage to their dominance of the circuit in the late '60s. The 865cc, air-cooled parallel twin has won the hearts of many over its short existence and Dime City is proud to offer a nice selection of genuine and aftermarket parts for these speed machines. "I purchased my 2004 Triumph Thruxton about 8 years ago and I've loved it," says Kyle. It started to age, so he started looking at buying a brand new Triumph. "They had fancy tech and performance features my bike didn't have, but they didn't quite have the classic style I loved."
Kyle began to realize that the only way he could get the bike he really truly wanted was to build it himself. So, that's just what he did.
"After I got all the parts on it that I wanted, I decided to change the color to match my other love: a 1960s era slate-grey Porsche 911.", says Kyle. Excellent choice!
It's still a 15 year old Triumph and only the 2nd bike Kyle has ever owned but " when I roll it out to ride, it is a whole new bike to me. It feels like my dream bike."
